RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – In a concerning development, the Saudi Arabian Anti-Corruption Authority has revealed attempts to conceal or destroy evidence in their investigation into the recent food poisoning incident at a Riyadh restaurant.
The incident, which resulted in one fatality and dozens hospitalized, sent shockwaves through the city. Initial reports linked the outbreak to contaminated mayonnaise used by the restaurant chain, Hamburgini.
According to a statement released by the Authority, “initial investigations conducted…have revealed attempts to conceal or destroy evidence.” The statement goes on to allege that “a small number of unscrupulous food inspectors” may have colluded to “achieve personal gain, disregarding public safety and health.”
The Authority has vowed to hold all those responsible accountable. This news comes as the Ministry of Health reports the situation is under control with no new cases emerging. However, 20 individuals remain in intensive care following the outbreak.
